Tara, Baybay Tayo!

(I don’t know if its right.. Its my name daw! The Old Alibata..)

Source : http://www.baybayin.com/
The Alibata coined by Paul Versoza thought that its roots are of Arabic, but it is actually related to Kavi or Kawi. It is known as Baybayin (Tagalog), a writing system of the Philippines before Spaniards came to conquer and colonize the country. The alphabets of the Baybayin is actually related to the Old Kawi of Javanese and belongs to the Brahmic Family (I hardly know about this Brahmic, it might originated from India? LOL). It is said that the natives used this writing system as early as 14th century up until the 19th century.
It’s sad though that the Alibata is near extinction (Yes it is not yet extinct because some tribes in Palawan still use this! Sweet eh?). The reasons daw for its near extinction are the Spanish and the Americans. The Spanish taught a different writing system, the Roman Alphabet. After the Spanish colonization, the Americans introduced english into the school curriculum.. That is why we are using a combination of the Roman Alphabet and English Alphabet right now, I think..
It’s sad to note that the youth of today are not using this unique writing system that might distinguish us as fully developed and that way before Spaniards conquered our country, we were already civilized.. I wish we can incorporate this system at school so that it won’t extinct, just like the writing system of Thailand, and other countries in Asia which they are still using up to date…

haha galing! kakatuwa yung pag capital letters equivalent to Large glyph font, pag small letters.. small font naman.
weeeeeeee… gotta get some tattoo using alibata! hahaha!!

Hannah - uy, sabay tayo!!! hahaha
Yods - LOL… Sana nga ginagamit pa natin to ngaun para masabi nila na meron ng kultura ang Pilipinas before pa dumating ang mga banyaga dito sa atin! Atsaka sa Sanskrit daw to nakuha!
Finch - Teach! Teach!!! hahaha… Marunong kapalang gumawa ng love letter? hahaha!
i wonder how my name would look like in alibata.:D
the albata tattoo seems a good idea.
hehe. One of my old friends used to write me letters in Alibata.
Arnie - Your name might actually look good.. hehehe… Yeah, I’m thinking of getting a tattoo for myself too!!! ASTIG TINGNAN!
Fatima - Coool… I never really memorized Alibata, except of course during exams and that is all.. haha!
when i was in undergrad i practiced writing in baybayin (the hanunuo syllabary, i think, not the more famous tagalog). i find the smooth flowing water-like script beautiful.
more power!
hey janus. seen your comment in my blog. yeah, yeah nurse ‘to! hehe Regarding dun sa question mo if alam ko ang school mo, let me guess: hmmm.. San Pedro College is in Davao City, right?
SOrry if Im wrong.
sinubukan kong matuto nyan.. nung grade 5 kame itinuro samin yan.. kaso nakalimutan ko nga.. malaki talaga epekto ng pananakop ng ibang bansa sa atin.. panulat, pananalita, pati damit at asal eh naapektuhan..
mabuti pa sa india kahit 4000 years na yung damit nila eh ginagamit pa rin nila at kahit napasailalim sila sa inglatera hindi pa rin nabago yung panulat nila..
Amikus - The Baybayin really looks beautiful… Like the Japanese characters! hahaha
William - Yeah, you are right! haha
